News from the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) June 28, 2024, 9 a.m. CARRBORO, NC -- OWASA crews are continuing to repair a 20-inch water line in front of the Jones Ferry Road Water Treatment Plant in Carrboro. Work continued through the night and repairs are expected to continue on Friday, June 28.
Following the completion of the water line repair, road repairs will begin. Updates on road closures will be provided as repairs progress. These repairs will likely cause the road closure to continue into next week.
In order to safely and efficiently repair the 20-inch water line, OWASA had to temporarily stop water service to about 50 customers in Carrboro yesterday around noon. These customers were notified directly. Information about the affected area is on our online Active Boil Water Advisory map.
Due to the size of the water line break, customers in any part of OWASA’s service area may continue to see discoloration in their water. These customers should run their cold water through bathtub faucets until the water is clear. The water remains safe to drink.
Customers located near the intersection of Highway 54 and Barbee Chapel may continue to see lower-than-normal water pressure as we continue to use our interconnection with the City of Durham to ensure adequate water to customers.

OWASA has established a water station at the Carrboro Civic Club at 108 Bim St. Customers affected by the water outage can bring clean containers to fill up with water from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
