The resulting 56.53-cent property tax rate is down from the current rate of 60.44 cents per $100 in assessed property value. The tax rate for an owner of a $400,000 home would generate a $2,261.20 town tax bill, an increase of $32.40 per month.

“This budget reflects our shared commitment to maintaining the high quality of life that our residents enjoy while addressing the realities of a changing economic landscape, paralleled with the significant spikes in home values due to the revaluation of real property,” said Town Manager Patrice Toney. “It strikes a balance between long-term priorities and the current challenges we face, with a focus on fiscal responsibility in alignment with the Town’s two pillars of race equity and sustainability.”
Even in these uncertain economic times, this budget includes a well-deserved 5% across-the-board raise for all staff, which is an investment in the talent, passion, innovation, and hard work that make Carrboro an award-winning model for excellence in local government, Town Manager Toney said.
In addition to supporting Town employees, the adopted budget:
- Advances key sustainability initiatives to ensure environmental stewardship and a sustainable future for our community and planet,
- Invests in critical capital projects that will strengthen our infrastructure and public spaces,
- Maintains the current level of service that our residents count on and appreciate,
- And lays the groundwork for long-term fiscal stability, even in a shifting economic climate.
