Development on Carrboro’s 203 Project is continuing, with the planning phase well underway. This joint venture between the Town of Carrboro and Orange County will be the future home of the Orange County Southern Branch Public Library, Carrboro’s Recreation and Parks offices, Teen Center, Virtual Justice Center, and local radio station WCOM. Exploration of parking solutions for the project continues, and the Town is confident that ample parking will be available both during construction and once the project is completed.
After much consideration, The ArtsCenter has made a decision to not go forward as a partner in the 203 Project. Executive Director Dan Mayer said, “the Town and County have been good partners in the planning process; however, we have decided to pursue other options that better fit our needs.” Carrboro Town Manager David Andrews said, “Over the years the Town of Carrboro has built a close professional relationship with The ArtsCenter, and although The ArtsCenter has chosen to not participate in this project, we look forward to continuing to build that relationship and working together on future collaborations.”
Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2020. Mayor Lydia Lavelle notes, “We continue to be excited about this project and the benefits and opportunities it will provide to our community – it has been decades in the making.”
