PreK-12 School Personnel and Child Care Workers Now Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccine

Governor Roy Cooper announced Feb. 10 that childcare workers, educators and school personnel in pre-K through grade 12, including private and charter schools, will be eligible to receive a COVID vaccine beginning today, Feb. 24. Other frontline essential workers listed in Group 3 will become eligible March 10.

The Orange County Health Department (OCHD) is preparing to vaccinate educators, including Prek-12 (public, private, and charter schools), and childcare providers. Health Department staff are reaching out to childcare workers, educators and school personnel in pre-K through grade 12, including private and charter schools to get them signed up. They will be prioritized over the other Group 3 essential workers on the waiting list.

It may take a few weeks or longer before the Health Department notifies educators and staff to schedule an appointment with Orange County Health Department as vaccine supplies remain limited. Educators and staff may check with all of the different organizations vaccinating in Orange County. If they have already signed up on the OCHD interest survey they do not need to sign up again.

The Orange County Health Department is not the only place to get the vaccine. See a full list of vaccinators at myspot.nc.gov or call 888-892-1162.

Gov. Cooper Announces Easing of COVID-19 Restrictions as North Carolina Trends Stabilize

As North Carolina’s numbers continue to show improvement and vaccine distribution increases, Gov. Cooper has announced that the state will carefully ease some of its COVID-19 restrictions. Executive Order No. 195 will take effect Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. and will expire March 26 at 5 p.m.

The Executive Order lifts the Modified Stay at Home Order requiring people to stay at home and businesses to close to the public between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The number of people who may gather indoors will increase from 10 to 25, while 50 remains the limit for outdoors. The curfew on the sale of alcohol for onsite consumption will be moved from 9 pm to 11 pm. Some businesses, including bars and amusement parks, will now be open for patrons indoors with new occupancy restrictions. Many businesses, venues and arenas will have increased occupancy both indoors and outdoors.

Executive Order No. 195 https://files.nc.gov/governor/documents/files/EO195-Easing-Restrictions.pdf  has two general categories of occupancy restrictions: 30% capacity and 50% capacity. Because indoor spaces have a higher risk of spread for COVID-19, indoor facilities in the 30%-occupancy category may not exceed two hundred fifty (250) people per indoor room or indoor space.
