While new pipe installation work continues on South Greensboro Street between N.C. 54 and Rand Road in Carrboro, contractors will implement a traffic shift next week in order to accommodate vehicles traveling through the work area.
Crews will close one of two northbound lanes and shift traffic to one lane starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, weather permitting. The shift will last for approximately 90 days.
“This work is being coordinated with similar drainage upgrades being performed by the adjacent South Green development property owners, which will further improve drainage in this flood-prone area,” said NCDOT Division Seven Assistant Resident Engineer Tommy Byrd. “While the shift will slow traffic in this small area, motorists will be able to continue to use the roadway during this phase of construction,” Byrd added.
The department encourages motorists to pay attention when approaching the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
