Beginning Monday, June 11, 2018, a portion of South Greensboro Street will be closed to through traffic at Old Pittsboro Road and Two Hills Drive (formerly Rand Road) in Carrboro. The road is scheduled to reopen on August 13th, 2018. A detour route to and from Downtown Carrboro via Jones Ferry Road is provided here at this link: SIGNED DETOUR ROUTE . Throughout the duration of the project, pedestrian and bicycle travel through the work zone will be accommodated via a gravel walkway and safety fence and access to residences and businesses in the immediate work zone area will remain accessible. Transit routes will not be affected. Travelers may consider W. Main Street, and Merritt Mill Road as alternate routes to avoid the work zone. Travelers are reminded to stay alert when approaching the work zone, watch for construction signs and changed conditions, obey the posted speed limit, and allow extra time to reach your destination.
The road closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of a roundabout intersection at South Greensboro Street, Old Pittsboro Road, and Two Hills Drive, in order to improve safety, access and mobility. The developer of South Green, Woodhill NC, LLC is performing the work as authorized by the Town of Carrboro and the North Carolina Department of Transportation. Additional information on roundabout intersections is available at https://connect.ncdot.gov/resources/safety/Teppl/TEPPL%20All%20Documents%20Library/R38_br.pdf
All businesses along South Greensboro Street are open! There is free public parking throughout the downtown, including the 203 South Greensboro lot. The public is encouraged to shop downtown. Please watch for special events planned during the summer in Downtown Carrboro on the Town’s website www.townofcarrboro.org.
