Town of Carrboro Celebrates Arbor Day Friday March 16th
The Town of Carrboro will be celebrating Arbor Day, March 16 at Carrboro Elementary School. The ceremony will take place inside the school auditorium at 10:00am. Town officials, the Urban Forestry Service, and Smokey the Bear will be in attendance to honor the importance of trees and the service they provide for our environment. The program will close with a tree planting commemoration.
Carrboro is one of more than 3,400 Tree City USAs, with a combined population of 140 million. The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
If there ever was a time for trees, now is that time! Communities worldwide are facing issues with air quality, water resources, personal health and well-being, and energy use, so Carrboro is stepping up to do its part. The commitment Carrboro has made to effective urban forest management is helping to provide a solution to these global challenges. We would like to encourage the public to make a commitment to keep Carrboro an environmentally friendly town. For more information visit www.arborday.org/TreeCityUSA .
