Governor Cooper has issued a state of emergency for the state of North Carolina. The Town of Carrboro is taking the following actions to prepare for Hurricane Florence, and urges residents to prepare for up to 4 days without power. Forecasters currently estimate that over a foot of rain could fall between Thursday and Monday -- but if the path of the storm changes, the location of that heavy rain pattern will change as well.
If your neighborhood is prone to flooding the Town of Carrboro strongly suggests you seek shelter elsewhere to avoid the flooding effects of the hurricane. There have been past occasions were lifesaving, rescue efforts were needed for residents who live in neighborhoods that are prone to flooding. With your help, we would like to minimize or prevent the need for those efforts again. Please give consideration to this request and help us to better manage this impending weather event.
Orange County Government wants to keep you informed even if the power goes out! Text OCStorm to 888-777 to receive text notifications from @OCNCGOV and Orange County Emergency Services during Hurricane Florence. Standard text and data rates may apply.
Plan and Prepare:
•Residents should prepare their homes with nonperishable food items, fuel, batteries, flashlights, bottled water, candles, matches, emergency radio, pet food, cash, fire extinguisher, and first aid kits. Be sure to check on your neighbors, especially if they are disabled or elderly
•Don’t forget to secure outdoor items that could become projectiles in wind.
•First aid kits and medical supplies are encouraged to have on hand. For safety of our first responders Fire and EMS will not be responding to calls if winds are 40 miles per hour or higher. However, Police will be staged throughout the town.
