    JANET PLACE and MARTHA PEARSON

Singer/songwriter Janet Place is most often seen as the front woman for the Americana band, Great Big Gone. She will be performing in a rare pared down style accompanied by Martha Pearson on harmony vocals. Martha often sings with The Bad Mothers. Janet was a member of the seminal D.C. alternative country band, The Slim Jims, before moving to NC in 1995 and forming the bluesy roots band, The Kickbacks, then the Brown Mountain Lights and finally Great Big Gone. No Depression magazine, said "Janet Place's voice, reminiscent of a huskier Patsy Cline ... drips with country hard luck and hard-won wisdom". Rick Cornell in the Independent wrote that one of her songs on Great Big Gone's 2008 debut CD "needs to make it into the hands of Emmylou Harris". Janet won honorable mention in the 2008 Nashville Music Studio Songwriting Contest.

They've been living in Chapel Hill, NC since 1990 and they love the music of their ancestors and play it every chance they get. Eileen plays a mean fiddle and sings beautifully the songs and ballads of Ireland and Scotland and America. Tim plays Celtic tunes on flute, tin whistle, and English concertina and accompanies Eileen on piano. He also has been known to deliver a song or two including some originals. Drew Pilant should also be helping out for this one. Drew is a Carrboro native and percussion whiz will be pulling out beats from his world-beat bag of tricks.
