  5. MOTHERLOAD: A Movie about Cargo bikes, and much more

    October 19, 2019, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

MOTHERLOAD is a documentary that follows a new mother’s quest to understand the increasing isolation & disconnect of the modern age, its planetary impact, & how cargo bikes might be an antidote. Liz Canning cycled everywhere until she had twins in 2008. Hauling babies via car was unsustainable & miserable, & Liz felt trapped. Googling “family bike,” Liz uncovered a global movement of people replacing cars with cargo bikes: bikes designed for carrying passengers & heavy loads. Liz set out to learn more, and MOTHERLOAD was born. The Carrboro Bicycle Coalition, BACH, & NEXT (event hosts) believe that in this age of climate change the lowly bicycle plays a vital part in reducing our dependency on cars, & hope that this movie will amplify that conversation. If you have ever wondered if it was possible to transport kids, groceries, and other items without getting in a car, come see the movie & be inspired! Sponsors: Carolina Tarwheels, Back Alley Bikes, The Clean Machine
