MILL NATURE PRESERVE HIKE AND LUNCH |
| Johnston Mill
Nature Preserve consists of 295 acres. It is one of Triangle
Land Conservancy's (TLC) public access properties and
is considered one of Orange County's most important natural
areas and was included in the Inventory of Natural Areas
and Wildlife Habitats of Orange County. New Hope Creek
cuts through the Northwest corner of the site and is joined
by Old Field Creek, which flows out of Duke Forest. There
is a well marked 1.5 mile Robin's Trail with bridges over
Old Field Creek and intermittent streams. We will look
for many nesting neotropical migrants such as Hooded Warbler,
Scarlet Tanager and Indigo Bunting. In addition to
this great hike we will be stopping at Allen and Son's
BBQ for lunch on the way back to Carrboro (please bring
money for lunch).

| ADAM'S
TRACT AND MAPLE VIEW ICE CREAM |
| In 1950, Dr.
J. Edison Adams, beloved UNC professor of botany, purchased
and improved an old homestead as a residence for his family.
This is the 27 acre Adam's tract along Bolin Creek which
connects with Carrboro's Wilson Park. Trails through the
northern portion reveal a contrasting older deciduous
forest of oaks, hickories and beech on steep slopes leading
down to Bolin Creek. After discovering the rocky ridges
of Bolin Creek, we will visit Maple View for a summer
ice cream tradition. Please bring money for ice cream.

GET INVOLVED
Much of the vitality of life in Carrboro is due to the
active involvement of citizens in the community. Volunteers
of all ages regularly
share their talents, skills, and ideas by planning or
assisting with large events, serving on town advisory
boards, or coaching a youth sports team. While some
activities require the contribution of many hours others
call for only a few hours of time. Not only can you
share your talents, you can have fun, make new friends
and discover more about your town.
